It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Richard McEvoy Sr. (“Max”) on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.
With family by his side, Rick passed away peacefully following a brief illness.
He cherished the final moments he was able to spend with many of his friends and family members.
Rick was born Sept. 18, 1944 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Kathleen and Vincent McEvoy.
He lived his entire life in Fort Frances, where he met and married Shirley Godin on Dec. 21, 1964.
They had three children together, Kathryn (Smeeth), Richard Jr., and Steven, and recently celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage.
Rick began working in the local mill and continued with schooling to achieve his certification as a stationary engineer. He retired from the mill on Dec. 15, 1999.
Rick loved to fish, as well as socialize with his friends. He also loved to play the guitar, playing in local bands as a young man and passing down his talents to his boys.
Over the past few years, he set out to play the banjo and enjoyed his times he could get together with a friend to practice.
Rick will be remembered by his loving wife, Shirley; children, Kathy Smeeth (Dan), Richard Jr. (Julie), and Steven (Crystal).
He also will be remembered by his 11 grandchildren, Josh, Jessica, Liz, Sam, Victoria, Aimee, Hailey, Brittany, Rachael, Kyle, and Ashley; and eight great-grandchildren.
Also remembering Rick are his sisters, Bernice Izzard (B.C.), Leslie McCoy, Sandra McEvoy, and Dorleen Godbout (Fort Frances), and his baby brother, Doug McEvoy (Winnipeg, Man), and their families.
Rick was predeceased by his parents, Kathleen and Vincent McEvoy; brothers, James, Bobby (Charles), and Ronald; and sisters, Sheran (Sheppard) and Louise (Miller).
Cremation is taking place.
At his request, there will be no service.
