RAYMOND (ROMAN) FREDERICK

Ray Frederick, 72 years old, passed away from lung cancer on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001. He was born in Fort Frances, Ont., and came to Sudbury in 1958 to play hockey for the Senior Sudbury Wolves and to work for Northern Ontario Natural Gas.
Ray was a “goal tender” and played hockey for the following teams: Fort Frances Canadians, Port Arthur Burns, Hamilton Lloyds, Brandon Wheat Kings, Edmonton Flyers, Chicoutimi, Charlottetown Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Buffalo Bison, Chicago Blackhawks and Calgary Stampeders.
He finished off here in Sudbury playing with the “Sudbury Wolves” in the 1958-59 season. From there he went on to play for the Sudbury and Walden Old Timers.
In 1968 he went into business for himself as “Ray Frederick Heating & Appliances” and has been in business for over 33 years. he loved his work and most of all his customers–the ones who put him into business and supported him all of these years. He thanks all of them for that. He never officially retired. He enjoyed working out at Cambrian Fitness, jogging, swimming and gardening.
He was a generous, loving and caring person. His kindhearted nature meant he was always ready to help others. He will be greatly missed by his wife and partner of 49 years (Ruth Yeo of Montague, P.E.I.) and his five children: Karen Turpin (husband Denis), Diana Casstonguay (husband Bernie), Lynn Frederick, Elizabeth Ferrier (husband Cedric, Sr.), and Dave Frederick all of Sudbury.
His five grandchildren, Chantelle Castonguay, D.J. Castonguay, Cedric, Jr. Ferrier, Amadea Ferrier and Julie Turpin will always remember Ray as Grand-dad. He will be sadly missed by his siblings; Christine Lavigne (Bert) of International Falls, Mn., George Frederick (Marion) of North Vancouver, B.C. and Bob Frederick (Doris) of Sudbury.
He was a trustee of the Knights of Columbus Council #11522 and a devout Roman Catholic who attended St. Patrick’s Parish. He would very much like to express a special thank you to the staff and volunteers at the Cancer Treatment Centre in Sudbury who do such great things for the patients and families. Memorial Mass was held at the St. Patrick’s Church, 39 Walford Rd. on Monday, August 27, 2001 at 10 a.m. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium.
