Raymond Joseph Maki, 77, of Stratton, Ont., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg Man.
Raymond was born Nov. 14, 1937 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Matti and Hilma Maki.
He met his second wife, Sadie Maki, at Round Lake, Ont., where he was placed for work.
Before Raymond met Sadie, he worked as a male nurse at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, where he was given the opportunity to become a physician but declined because of his age (25).
Instead, he worked many occupations, including firefighter, carpenter, and diesel mechanic just to name a few.
When Raymond met Sadie, he was a carpenter and diesel mechanic. They later moved from Round Lake to Fort Frances, where they raised their growing family.
From Fort Frances, Raymond then resided in Stratton until his passing of this year.
Ray loved to camp, fish, boat, and teach his children how to work hard.
Ray will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sadie; sons, Wayne, Robert, Russell, and Rick; daughters, Barbara, Christine, Laura, Rose, Tammy, Tiffany, Tanya, and Vanessa; and his many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He also will be missed by his sister, Helen (James) Daw; brother, Sulo (Bev) Maki; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Ray was predeceased by mother and father, Matti and Hilma Maki; sisters, Mamie and Milya Maki; brother, Matti Peramaki; his son, Ryan Keeash; grandson, Timmy; and granddaughter, Angela.
A memorial service was held Monday, Sept. 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Off Lake Evangelical Covenant Church, with Mr. Sonny Ferris officiating.
Interment followed at 2 p.m. at Pine Ridge Cemetery in North Branch, Township of Morley.
