RAYMOND (HORACE) CAMERON

It is with great sadness that the family of Raymond Cameron announces his passing on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, in Fort Frances, Ontario, at the age 84. Ray was born on February 19, 1938 in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, to Raymond and Ada Cameron. The family moved to Fort Frances when he was a young boy and he resided here the rest of his life.

Raymond started his flying career at age 18 with Rusty Myers Flying Service, where he worked for seven years. Afterwards, he moved to Lac La Croix with his family and flew for Lac La Croix Quetico Air Service, where he was chief pilot and engineer for 12 years. He then moved back to Fort Frances and continued his career as chief pilot and engineer for the paper mill.

Ray enjoyed all his jobs. His co-workers and customers all became his friends. He retired after more than 40 years of flying and countless hours. He always remained friends with the Myers, the Handbergs, and all the people at the Lac La Croix Village. He enjoyed flying for the paper company; taking Don Dixon out every morning to survey roads, doing aerialn photography, flying customers to Stork Lake fishing, and having a special friend, Glen Canfield, to work with. Ray also participated in many search and rescue missions throughout his career.

He was united in marriage to Sue Degelman on April 30, 1960, and together they raised three children. The family enjoyed many summers at the cabin on Rainy Lake. He loved to play guitar, paint, travel, fish, hunt, and visit with family and friends. He always had a story to share with everyone.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Sue (Carolyn) Cameron; children Doug Cameron (Geri), Lana (Mike) Law and Leigh Ann Cameron (Al Scott); grandchildren Cody and Katlyn Cameron; sister Dawn Thomson; sister-in-law Lynne Cameron (Hagen); nephews Al Cameron (Shelley) and Joe Cameron (Cindy); as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Ada; brother Ron Cameron; and nephew Barry Cameron.

A visitation was held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Knox United Church in Fort Frances. The pallbearers were Cody Cameron, Bill Krag, Ted Asselin, Al Scott, Don Ward, Mike Law, and honourary pallbearers Les Pattison, John Myers, Frank Myers, Rod Savage, Raimo Tyrvainen, and Don Dixon.
