R.V. “VAN” GREEN

Van Green, 72, of 1293 Idylwild Dr., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002.
He was born Sept. 23, 1930 in Fort Frances to the late R.V. “Rusty” and Signe Green.
He was predeceased by his parents, R.V. “Rusty” Green in 1970 and Signe Green in 1990; and by one son, Henry David, in infancy.
Van is survived by his wife, Kathryn Green in Fort Frances, Ont.; two sons, David Green and wife, Karen, and Bob Green and wife, Lori, of Fort Frances, Ont.; one daughter, Kathy and husband, Bruce Bogacki, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and seven grandchildren, Travis, Jason, Mitchell, Morey, and Britton Green, and Jessalyn and Joel Bogacki.
Also surviving are one brother, Dr. R.N. “Bob” Green and wife, Helen, of London, Ont.; one sister, Nancy and husband, Yvon Chamberland, of Collingwood, Ont.; and by six nieces and nephews.
Green’s Countrywide Furniture was opened by Van’s father in 1923, where Van worked all through high school and became manager in 1958. Van was proud to hand over responsibility of the store to his sons in 1992.
Van also was involved in land development and real estate through Keyes-Green Investors and Banta Enterprises.
Van wore many “hats,” serving the community through the Kinsmen Club, Chamber of Commerce, Retail Merchants Association, Curling Club, Borderland Shrine Club, Airport Commission, and Parks Board. He also served as trustee on the Fort Frances Rainy River School Board.
For enjoyment, Van loved the lake, duck hunting, boating in the ’56 Cadillac, golfing, curling, Thursday afternoon smear games, and most of all watching his grandchildren play hockey, as well as the company of his two dogs, Sven and Olie.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 4, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Fr. Wayne McIntosh officiating.
Interment will take place at a later time.
Friends may visit Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, A Masonic Granite Lodge #446 A.F. and A.M. service will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
Honourary pallbearers will be Dave Hughes, Deane Cunningham, Roy Avis, Walter Avis, Brian Avis, Ken Moser, Ken Woodman, Bruce Holmlund, Al Robertson, Doug Medhurst, Lynn Kehler, and Sherrie Asselin.
