Philip Holland, 99, of Emo, Ont., passed away Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998 at the Emo Health Centre in Emo. He was born Aug. 19, 1899 in County Galway, Ireland to the late Philip and Annie Holland.
In 1906, Philip moved to Canada with his family and settled in Burriss, Ont. for a while until moving to Carpenter Township. On Jan. 25, 1937, he was united in marriage to the former Hazel Ada Ward in International Falls, Mn.
Philip farmed in Carpenter Township for many years, and also worked for a time for the Department of Highways.
He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel Ada Holland on Sept. 3, 1984; one brother, Harry Holland; and six sisters, Dora Holland, Mabel Holland, Maud Parish, Kathleen Holland, Emily Holt, and Muriel Holland.
Philip is survived by five children, Harry Holland and wife, Miriam, of Edmonton, Alta., Muriel and husband, Arleigh Hanson, of Outlook, Sask., Arnold Holland and wife, Ruth, of Kamloops, B.C., and Audrey Holland and Beverley Holland, both of Emo, Ont.; three grandchildren, Faline and husband, Colin Franes, Dora and husband, Tony Winwood, and Amy Holland; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Franes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 23, 1998 at 2 p.m. at the Emo Legion in Emo. Mr. Alton Mose and Mr. Bruce Waddell will officiate, with interment in Emo Cemetery in Emo.
Friends may visit Thursday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers will be Bob Radbourne, Ray Mose, Leslie Mose, Wilbur Mose, Roger Mose, and Len Stafford.
