In loving memory of Pete Finlayson, who passed away Saturday, Dec 17, 2011 at the Dryden Regional Health Centre in Dryden, Ont., with his family at his side, after a long battle with cancer.
Pete was born April 22, 1937 to Harry and Margaret Finlayson.
He is survived by his sons, Peter (Kim) Finlayson and Mike Finlayson; grandchildren, Megan Perreault (Chris Wood), Brett Finlayson (Amy) and Crystal Bull (Shane); and great-grandchildren, Morgan and Myla Perreault, and Ashton and Ayden Bull.
He also is survived by his brother, Billy (Betty) Finlayson and sister, Shirley (Cyril) Lobreau and their families; as well as extended family.
Pete was predeceased by his parents; and his sisters, Dorothy and Betty (and their families) in 1965.
He also was predeceased by his first wife, Nellie, and second wife, Dorothy.
In his younger years, Pete loved to hunt and fish. He always loved hockey, whether playing or watching.
Family was very important to him, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him.
Pete was a hard worker, and drove truck for more than 50 years. He worked on the tugboats hauling wood for Dryden Paper, drove for others, and had his own truck for years. He ended his career hauling wood chips in Saskatchewan.
He was passionate about his trucks—both big and small, and always was tinkering in the garage.
Pete was known for his sense of humour and always was ready to tell a joke. He also was generous and willingly helped friends, neighbours, and strangers.
As he wished, Pete has been cremated. A private interment will be held at a later date.
Pete’s family celebrated his life with friends at a memorial visitation on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011 from 1-3 p.m. in the Moffat Chapel of the Stevens Funeral Home in Dryden.
If friends desire, in memoriam donations may be made to Tamarack House or Dryden Palliative Care c/o Stevens Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 412, Dryden, Ont., P8N 2Z1.
