PETER DeBUNGEE (‘Zeek’)

Peter DeBungee, 45, of Winnipeg, Man., passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2006 in Winnipeg.
Peter was born March 22, 1962 in Emo, Ont. to Roy Peter DeBungee and Gladys DeBungee of Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations. Peter was a member of Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations.
Peter is survived by his daughters, Lindsay Mainville of Winnipeg, Man. and her mother, Lorie Mainville, and Danielle of Manitoba; and granddaughter, Cedar Rain Mainville.
He also leaves behind his two brothers, Elvis DeBungee and Wesley DeBungee, both from Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations; uncles, Dave DeBungee of Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations, Myers Handorgan of Big Island First Nation, and Robert Handorgan of Big Island First Nation; and aunties, Joyce Major of Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations, Margaret Yerxa of Big Island First Nation, and Rose Tuesday of Big Island First Nation.
Peter also leaves numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and the many friends and family members he was so proud to have in his life.
Peter will be joining his brothers, Brian, Thomas, and Charles Roy, and a sister (stillborn); and his uncles, aunts, and the many friends and family members who left before him.
Peter loved the guitar and playing music. He was an artist, writing poetry, an avid outdoorsman, and he was very creative. He liked thinking up inventions; he always thought of something that might make a good invention.
He also loved martial arts and enjoyed watching Bruce Lee movies.
He moved to Winnipeg in 1982, where he made his home but always enjoyed coming home. He worked as a roofer in Winnipeg for many years and a furniture mover.
He had moved back to Manitou Rapids this past spring working for Manitou Forest Products for a short period of time, then decided to move back to Winnipeg.
A traditional service was held Monday, June 26, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations gymnasium. Elder Harry Windigo officiated, followed by interment in the Manitou Rapids traditional burial grounds.
A funeral wake was held Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 4 p.m. at the Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations gymnasium.
The pallbearers were Joey Baptiste, Clayton Baptiste, Chris Norquay, Calvin Bombay Jr., Willie McGinnis, and Ernest Brown.
