It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Boon Jr. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 at the Health Sciences Centre hospital in Winnipeg, Man. after battling prostate cancer.
Pete passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Doreen, by his side.
Pete leaves to mourn the love of his life, Doreen (nee Chapellaz); parents, Peter and Annie Boon; brothers, John, Fred, Richard (Cheryl), Christopher, and Paul; sister, Cathy Ash (Ray); and brother-in-law, Joe Gladu.
Pete loved all of his nieces and nephews, Ari, Alexandra, Jason, and Jennifer Boon, Dan and Alexis Kanu, Nicholas (Daly) and Lucas Gladu, and Billy and Jessica Ash; and great-nieces and nephews, Madison, Wellington, and Imogen.
He was predeceased by his brother, Hank; sister, Annie Gladu; and niece, Amanda Boon.
Pete was born on June 7, 1960 in Winnipeg, Man. and was raised in Fort Frances, Ont. He grew up in Miscampbell, where he worked hard with his family on the farm.
Pete graduated from Fort Frances High School. He recently retired from 28 years of service on the CN Railway, where he made many lifelong friends.
Pete had a passion for cars and always was reading the “Autotrader.” He also loved to ride his HD motorcycle, which was a great freedom for him.
Pete was a hard worker, loyal friend, uncle, brother, and husband.
On July 30, 2011, he married the love of his life, Doreen Chapellaz. They resided in Winnipeg surrounded by great friends and family. Pete also loved his pets and had a soft spot for animals.
He loved to travel with his wife, Doreen, from the East Coast to the West Coast, and especially enjoyed their European trip with a stop in the Netherlands to visit family.
Pete had a big heart and knew how to tease everyone out of love, of course. Thank you, Doreen, for loving Pete so much and being a part of our family. Pete’s friends also were a big part of his life and he will be truly missed. We are so proud of how hard he tried to fight.
It is time to rest, Pete. We love you.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 2, 2018 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Frances, with lunch to follow.
A celebration of Pete’s life also will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Silver Spike Saloon, 202 Bond St. in Winnipeg.
