Peacefully, on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, Pearl Walkey passed away at Pinecrest Home for the Aged, Kenora, Ont., at the age of 92.
Pearl was born Sept. 8, 1908 in Little Falls, Mn. but moved to Fort Frances, Ont. as a child. She married Clayton Walkey on July 16, 1935.
They moved to Kenora in 1940 when Clayton purchased the Arrow Drug Company and operated it as Walkey’s Drug Store.
She and Clayton were active square dancers. She also was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing bridge. She taught her grandchildren many ways to play solitaire.
She was an armchair quarterback, behind the glass skip, and off the field baseball manager, who would not answer the phone if the World Series was on.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the apple of her eye, Vance.
She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Cecelia Schubring; brother, Carl Firmin Schubring; and her husband, John Clayton.
She is survived by her only child, Jack (Sandra); grandson, Jason (Jennifer), and great-grandson, Vance, all of Vermilion Bay, Ont.; granddaughter, Andrea, of Kenora, Ont.; and niece, Margaret Walkey, of Fort Frances, Ont.
Pinecrest was her home for the last eight years. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Unit 2 for their special care. You always made her smile.
Should friends so desire, donations in Pearl’s memory can be made to Pinecrest, 1220 Valley Dr., Kenora, Ont. P9N 2W7.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held at the Brown Funeral Home, 429 2nd St. S., Kenora, Ont., on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001 at 11 a.m.
