Pearl Olive McKay passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006 at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances, Ont.
Pearl was born July 14, 1906 in Stephenfield, Man. to Herbert and Elizabeth Abbott. She was raised on the family farm, tending to her family until she was married to Ken Rogers in 1927.
They settled in Carman, Man. before moving to Fort Frances in 1939 and then to Rainy River, Ont. in 1945. While in Rainy River, Pearl owned and operated Quality Clothing—a store for woman that she was very proud of.
After selling the business, she worked for various businesses throughout the district, returning to Fort Frances in 1967.
After Ken’s passing in 1972, she met Allan McKay and they were married in 1976. Together they lived in Crystal City, Man. until his passing, when she returned to Fort Frances to be closer to her family.
Pearl was very creative; she loved to paint, sew, and do handiwork. In her spare time, she curled, served on the Rainy River school board, and had been very active in Knox United Church.
She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Ken Rogers; second husband, Allan McKay; infant son, Norman; grandson, Dale Robertson; sister, Gertude Lawrie; and brothers, William, Russell, and Bertram.
Pearl leaves behind her daughter, Noreen and husband, Cal Robertson, of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Susan Bodnar (Allan Botel) and Donald (Sandra) Robertson; great-grandchildren, Karrie (Darren) LaCraw, Stephen Robertson, and Laura Robertson (Travis Lichti); sister, Vida Johnston of Lindsay, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Rainy River, Ont., with Rev. Barbara Miller officiating.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River.
