On Aug. 13, 2008, Pauline Big George, 54, passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg, Man. after a lengthy illness and a courageous battle with cancer.
Wake and funeral services took place at the Big Grassy Community Hall on Friday, Aug. 15 and Saturday, 16, 2008, with burial at Big Island Cemetery.
Pauline is survived by her son and daughters, Tayton Bob, Sheila Bob (Dave Carney), Sachena Bob, Salena Bob-Kelly (Patrick S. Kelly), Nicole Lagimodiere, Seyla Bob, and Shantaya Paul; and grandchildren, Mitch Rundle, Arizona Bob, Robyn Bob, Shania Bob, Sacha Bob, Jayden Bob, Gabriel Bob-Kelly, Damien Bob-Kelly, TayJay Bob, and Dominika Oshie-Bob.
Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, George Simard (adoptive brother), Roy Tom (Jane), Colin Tom, Patrick Tom, Alison Tom, Verna Archie (Aquash), Ron Tom, John Tom, Nicole Gee, Naomie Braxton, and Abigail (Brian Halverson); parent, Bessie Tom; and nieces and nephews, Jesse Tom, Colin Tom Jr., and Travis Tom.
She was predeceased by her stepfather, Moses Tom; and her biological father, Leonard Green.
Pauline completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Manitoba with a double major in political science and criminology. She also served as chief at Big Island for two terms (1987-91).
Pauline was a liason for the Native Brotherhood Organization in Winnipeg. She had passion for politics and was a strong advocate for cultural awareness; she believed in cultural values at a grassroots level.
