PATSY DORIE

Dorie, Patsy

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Patsy Ann Dorie announces her passing, at the age of 81, on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Patsy was adopted by James and Ila Hamilton after being found on the steps of the MacKenzie Hospital. It was determined she was about two weeks old so her birthday always has been celebrated as Dec. 25, 1935.
Patsy met her husband, Joseph Dorie, and they married on Jan. 29, 1954 in Fort Frances. They raised their four children in Stratton, Ont.
In 1990, they built a new home and retired in Fort Frances.
Family was very important to Patsy. She was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved cooking for her “crew.”
Patsy was a very strong-willed, hard-working woman. She loved many challenges, including seasonal work for the Ministry of Transportation, and she was the lead skidder operator on her homestead.
She worked alongside Joe creating beautiful wooden cradles and wagons that will be treasured by the grand and great-grandkids forever.
Pasty’s passion was knitting and crocheting. She spent much of her life knitting gorgeous afghans, sweaters, or whatever you may need or want. Family and friends all were happy to receive the rewards of her wonderful talent.
Patsy loved her monthly luncheons with the “Burriss Girls,” her Tuesday bowling league, and working with the girls at “Auntie Carol’s Upstairs Canteena.” She especially enjoyed visits from good friends Ed and Laurel Halvorsen, and Bill and Rita next door.
Her nightly phone conversations with cousin Eva were a must.
She will be forever missed by her husband, Joe; their children, Creston (Janice) Dorie, Daniel (Vicky) Dorie, Jannene (Greg) Madill, and Myles Dorie; grandchildren, Sheila, Steven (Sheila), Michelle (James), Crystal (Rob), Jocelyn, Nicole (Graeme), Joelle (Chad), Maxx, and Melissa; and great-grandchildren, Carter, Logan, Autumn, Katrina, Gunnar, Jayden, Joyce, and Sophia.
Patsy was admired by her family for her strong personality, courage, and her never quit and non-complaining attitude. At any given time, you could ask Patsy, “How are you?” and it never failed her reply was always, “I’m fine, I’m good” right to the end.
A time of fellowship was held in Patsy’s memory on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 2:30-4:30 p.m at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont.
Interment will take place at a later date in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the Tamarack House or the charity of your choice c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
