It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia “Pat” Basaraba on July 16 at Riverview Health Centre.
Pat was born in 1953, to Peter and Polly Basaraba. She is survived by her brother, Al (Laurel); her nephews, Matt (Emma) and Joe; Matt and Emma’s daughters, Ava and Harper; her niece, Kate (Troy) Norman, and their children, Lex and Kolt; and her cousin, Gerry, whose devoted care and support meant so much during her time in Winnipeg.
Pat spent most of her life in Fort Frances, where she dedicated many years to teaching at Robert Moore School. She had a remarkable gift for inspiring young minds and a genuine passion for helping children learn, grow, and reach their potential. Beyond the classroom, Pat generously volunteered her time with many local organizations and community activities, always looking for ways to make a difference.
Family was important to Pat. She enjoyed daily lunches with Baba, summer road trips to Roblin, and following her niece and nephews in their many activities. She was always ready to lend a helping hand or cheer them on.
An adventurous spirit, Pat loved travelling to new places and sharing her journeys through the beautiful photographs she captured along the way. She embraced life with enthusiasm and enjoyed skiing, yoga, exercise classes, crafting, stamp collecting, singing, and trying new experiences.
Pat will be remembered for her warm heart, gentle spirit, kindness, sense of humour, and the many friendships she made throughout her life. She touched the lives of countless students, colleagues, friends, and community members through her generosity and willingness to help others.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory may be made to the Fort Frances Public Library. A passionate reader, Pat often had several books on the go at once.
A memorial service will be held in early October at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Fort
Frances, ON.
