ORLOW CARTER FLINDERS

Flinders, Orlow

The family of Orlow Carter Flinders sadly announces his passing, in his 79th year, on Monday, May 15, 2017 in Toronto, Ont. following a prolonged battle with lung cancer.
He was born on March 6, 1938 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Edward and Irene (Carter) Flinders, the first of three sons.
Following high school, Orlow studied further in Winnipeg, Man. so he could join the family business. Flinders Dairy was pioneered in Fort Frances by his grandparents, Mabel and O.B. Flinders.
He was a Master ice cream-maker and Flinders Dairy was known far and wide for their specialty, Vel-Luxe Ice Cream.
Many happy memories were made at the family cabin on Footprint Lake as his children were growing up. Later in life when the dairy closed, Orlow relocated to British Columbia to try his hand in the orchard industry, then returned home to Fort Frances to retire.
He enjoyed travelling–visiting the Great Wall of China was a highlight.
Within the last few years, Orlow and his wife, Hanfen, made Toronto their home.
Surviving Orlow is his beloved wife, Hanfen Chen; daughter, Melissa; sons, Jason (Bea) and Clay; stepdaughter, Yue; grandchildren, Brandon, Jenaya, Alysha, Falon, Farah, Chase, and Dani-Mae; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Kerry and wife, Barb, and their family.
The accidental snowmobiling death of his youngest brother, Lanny, in 1972, when Lanny was just 20 years old, was ever near in Orlow’s memory.
Also predeceasing him in 2004 was Lois Matchett, his first wife and mother of his children.
In honour of his last wishes, family and friends said goodbye to Orlow at a graveside service on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, when his cremains were laid to rest with his parents in the family plot in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
