In loving memory of Onni Huitikka, 92, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, Fort Frances, Ont., who passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at his residence.
Onni will be greatly missed by his wife, Aili; children, Reino (Agnes) of Dryden, Ont., Albert (Helen) of Dryden, Ont., Helen of Courtland, Ont., Olavi (Marlyce) of Crozier, Ont., Don (Dorothy) of Finland, Ont., Bob (Cathy) of Nestor Falls, Ont., and Rick (Karen) of Ladysmith, B.C.; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He also leaves behind his sister, Elma Lytola of Soini, Finland; sister-in-law, Berta Huitikka of Soini, Finland; nephews, Oiva and Heikki Huitikka and their families in Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews in Finland.
He was predeceased by his parents, Josefiina and Aukusti Huitikka; and three brothers, Arvo, Nillo, and Uuno.
Onni was born Feb. 29, 1908 in Soini, Finland. He moved to Canada in 1930 and settled at his home in Finland, Ont. Onni was united in marriage to Aili on May 7, 1935.
He was a logger and a trapper, and worked in construction for many years. He loved the outdoors and spent much time hunting, fishing, and trapping. Even after he moved to Rainycrest, he could be found at camp during the summer.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 23, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Off Lake Covenant Church. Eileen Bragg and Pastor Dan Pearson officiated, with interment in Finland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Stan Huitikka, Don Huitikka Jr., and Mike Huitikka, and friends Roger Lougheed, Reijo Tyrvainen, and Oscar Burnell.
