Surrounded by her loved ones, Olive Vivian Fagerdahl left this world to take her place as one of the Lord’s angels on Dec. 29, 2001.
She was born Dec. 10, 1923 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Jemima and Reginald Whitefield. She was raised in Fort Frances, where she attended Robert Moore Public School and Fort Frances High School.
On July 15, 1944, she was united in marriage to her soul mate, Norman Sydney Fagerdahl, who predeceased her Dec. 6, 1989. Over the span of 45 years, they made beautiful music together.
Music was a very important part of Olive’s life and she shared that gift generously with family and friends, instilling in her children and grandchildren a love for listening and playing. She leaves to us a legacy of many happy hours listening to her play, as well as playing and singing with her.
She also took great joy in spending time feeding God’s creatures and walking in the out-of-doors.
Olive proved to be a life-long learner when she obtained her driver’s licence at age 60.
In May, 2001, Olive completed a four-year Education for Ministry Program through the University of the South through extension. Her graduation was a great source of pride to her and to her family.
Her faith was inspirational to her family and friends. She was an active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit and a founding member of the Free Methodist congregation in Fort Frances.
She was a member of the Red-wing Rebekah Lodge, Rainycrest Auxiliary, a volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society, and a member of the Métis Nation of Ontario.
She was predeceased by her parents; an infant sister, Vivian; her brothers, Reginald and George; and sister, Dolly.
She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by son, Norman, wife, Debra, and their daughter, Taylor; daughter, Linda, husband, David Hayden, and their children, Derek and Lani, and great-grandson, Justin; son, Eric, wife, Caren, and their children, Erika and David; and daughter, Donna, husband, Laing Einarson, and their children, Danielle and Jennifer.
She also is survived by her sister, Isobel Busch; sisters-in-law, Millie and Lottie Whitefield; brothers-in-law, Sam Durbin, and Ingvald and wife, Rita Fagerdahl; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many friends and the family of the Church of the Holy Spirit.
