OLIVE OLGA ADVENT

Olive Olga Advent (nee Widgren) was born in the Township of Tovell, Ont. on March 7, 1911 to Tillie and Charlie Widgren. She attended school in Worthington & Tovell.
In her early years, she worked in the Bergland General Store. In December, 1929, she moved to Garson, Man. to meet her mom’s family and stayed for six years working at the Beausejour Hotel. Upon returning home, she worked again at Bergland and Rainy River.
In the spring of 1937 until 1943, she spent her summers at Nestor Falls, Ont. working at Young’s, Dalseg’s, and Clark & Crombie’s tourist camps. It was during that time she fell in love and married Frank, her husband of 61 years.
They were married March 20, 1938 at the Knox United Church in Fort Frances, Ont., and spent the winter months on the homestead in Dewart.
In early March, 1946, they moved to a farm north of Stratton. Until 1984, she worked side by side with Frank until retirement, when they moved to their home on the banks of the Rainy River near Stratton. Her idea of retirement was preparing wonderful meals for her family, spending time with the grandchildren, baking pies for the coffee shop, gardening, canning, and playing cards at the seniors’ centre.
She was a member of the U.C.W. and the Stratton United Church.
In January, 1998, they moved to Morley Meadowside Manor until her illness in October, 1998. Since that time, she has been at the Emo hospital.
After a courageous battle with cancer, Olive passed away peacefully May 12, 1999 at Emo, Ont.
She leaves to mourn her husband, Frank; and her three children, four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
