Olga Mihichuk, 82, of 960 First St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
She was born Aug. 12, 1925 in Fort Frances to the late Michael and Nettie Shostaskoski. Olga was raised and lived in Fort Frances.
On May 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Matt Mihichuk.
Throughout the years, Olga worked as a bookkeeper for many of the local downtown retailers, including Don Law and Sight & Sound. She enjoyed the outdoors and being in the sunshine, and she loved being with her family and socializing with friends.
She was family-oriented, loved cooking and preparing meals, and was well-known for her famous perogies and cabbage rolls—a favourite amongst all.
Olga will be missed dearly by all of her family and many friends too numerous to mention.
She was predeceased by her husband, Matt Mihichuk, on March 15, 1990.
Olga is survived by her daughter, Susan Gagnon of Calgary, Alta.; three sons, Lynn and wife, Barb, of Regina, Sask., and Randy and wife, Ellen, and Terry and wife, Nancy, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; six grandchildren, Lisa and Mitch Mihichuk, Nathan and Brittany Mihichuk, Jana Hackman, and Jonathan Gagnon; and two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Noah Hackman.
Also surviving is one sister, Stella Bunnell of Minneapolis, Mn.; one brother, Walter Shostakowski of Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Fr. Francis Pudicherry will officiate, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Family and friends may visit Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers will be Dan Mihichuk, Nathan Mihichuk, Doug Hackman, Clair Bunnell, Curtis Bunnell, and Glenn Treftlin.
The honourary pallbearers will be Marcia Zeleny, Elva Ossachuk, Bertha Ossachuk, Clara Badiuk, Dot Toffan, and Jean Eisenzoph.
