It is with great sadness that the family of Linnea Johnsrud, 94, announces her peaceful passing on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013.
Linnea was born March 12, 1919, at the home of her grandparents in McCrosson Township, Ont., to Isador and Annie (Halverson) Larson.
Linnea often reminisced about growing up in the Bergland, Ont. area.
One of the families that she worked for was the Carl and Anna Dalberg family; she did household chores and helped with the cooking on their farm north of Stratton, Ont. It was here that she met Thomas Johnsrud, a nephew of Anna Dalberg who had come from Norway to work for them.
They were united in marriage on May 3, 1939 at the Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Stratton.
Together they bought a farm of their own and had two sons, Arne and Dale. When the boys were getting to be school-age, they sold and bought another farm closer to town and the school.
Linnea, Tom, and the boys also lived down on the river for a short time before returning to the farm. When it was time to sell the farm, they bought the Doc Broughton place in town.
A few years after Linnea was widowed, she decided a smaller place was what she’d like and traded homes with Dale and Marg; not moving far as the two places were right next door to one another.
From her trailer, she moved to Stratton’s senior housing, Morley Meadows, and had many great years there.
Just recently, Linnea made Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont. her home. During her short stay there, she loved her new home and the staff who cared for her.
Her many pastimes included cooking, baking, reading, knitting, watching curling, playing games and cards, and spending time visiting with family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Dale (Marg) of Bergland, Ont.; daughter-in-law, Joan of Lorette, Man.; grandchildren, Cindy (Jim) Miller of Morson, Ont., Tim (Erin) of Winnipeg, Man., JoAnne Nygard (Murray Brown) of Thunder Bay, Ont., Glen of Winnipeg, Man., and Dan of Lorette, Man.; great-grandchildren, Kyle (Alyssa) Miller, Chelsea Miller, Dylan (Katelyn Bonhomme) McDonald, Alyssa Silvaggio, and Baby Johnsrud due in November, whom she was so excited to meet; and great-great-grandson, Ryder Miller.
Also surviving are her sisters, Lillian Brown of B.C., Edna (Graham) Calvert of Eagle River, Helen Ming and Judy Coates of Dryden; brother, Jerry (Joanne) Larson of Red Rock; and sister-in-law, Audrey Larson of Lac Lu.
Linnea also will be missed by numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces in Canada, the U.S., and Sweden.
Linnea was predeceased by her parents, Isador and Annie Larson; husband, Tom; son, Arne; infant grandson, Lorry; brothers Roy (Marge), Ernie, and Lorne; sisters, Ruby (Gunnar) Anderson; and brothers-in-law, Cliff Brown, George Ming, and Albert Coates.
A celebration of Linnea’s life will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bergland, with Lay Pastor Carolyn Kreger officiating.
Interment to follow in the Bergland Cemetery.
The honourary pallbearers will be Linnea’s grandchildren.
