NORRIS LANGTRY

Norris Langtry, 99, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.
Norris was born Aug. 7, 1915 in Morden, Man. to George and Violet Langtry. His family moved to the Rainy River District and as a young man he began working for Cornell’s Flour and Feed, as well in Flanders working as a logger.
In 1941, Norris along with his bride, Annie Ellen (nee Ash), enlisted in the armed forces and together they moved to Victoria B.C., where Norris served in the Royal Canadian Navy.
They returned to Fort Frances in 1945. Norris began working for the paper mill in International Falls as a stationary engineer, then later transferring to the Fort Frances paper mill, where he remained for 34 years, retiring in 1980.
Norris remained very active and continued to work for Modern Plumbing of Fort Frances for another 10 years after his retirement from the paper mill.
Norris loved to spend time fishing and hunting, and was a valued member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances.
In 1988, Norris’ wife, Annie Ellen (mother of Douglas), passed away.
In 1990, Norris met Gertrude “Gerti” Anderson and for the past 24 years they have shared their lives together as one.
Norris will be lovingly remembered by his partner, Gerti; son, Doug (Gail); grandchildren, Kerri (Brad) Dittaro and Sarah Langtry; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Amelia Dittaro; and step-children, Helen (Mike) Andrusco and Oliver (Judy) Anderson, son-in-law, Bob Klaus, and their families.
He also is survived by his sisters-in-law, Pat Ash and Loneta (Allan) Robertson; brother-in-law, Dennis (Annette) Ash; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Norris was predeceased by his parents, George and Violet Langtry; wife, Annie Ellen; siblings, John, Ben, Don, Orval, Birdie, Gladys, and Leone; and step-daughter, Sherlie Klaus.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Fort Frances, with Rev. Ralph Fluit officiating.
Legion honours were provided by the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 Colour Party.
Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances at a later date.
