NORMAN HUNTLEY

Norman Huntley, 80, of 275 First St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances on Sunday, June 4, 2000.
He was born Jan. 14, 1920 in Hazenmore, Sask. to the late Isaiah and Ethel Huntley. Norman moved to the Bergland area in 1931.
During World War II, he was stationed overseas with the Royal Canadian Artillery from 1941 to 1945. While overseas, he served as a Lance Bombardier in the Mediterranean and Central Europe.
Following his discharge, Norman returned to Fort Frances and worked at the paper mill for 37 years until his retirement on Jan. 31, 1985.
On Sept. 18, 1948, Norman was united in marriage to the former Shirley Hatch. Following retirement, he really enjoyed his time at Lake of the Woods, gardening, hunting, and spending time with all of his grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Huntley on Dec. 20, 1998; his brothers, Chester, Percy, Morris, Frank, and Walter; and his sisters, Muriel Bylund, Florence Nixon, Bessie Bennett, Hazel Larson, Elsa Wrolstad, and Jean Lundquist.
Norman is survived by three sons, David Huntley and wife, Barbara, of Palmerston, Ont., Alvin Huntley and wife, Janine, of Coquitlam, B.C., and Don Huntley and fiancé, Heather Jonas, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and two daughters, Sharlene and husband, Karl Schoof, of White Rock, B.C., and Sandra and husband, Herman Pruys, of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Krista Pruys, Jennifer Huntley and fiance, Wayne Bilger, Melanie Pruys, Caroline (Schoof) and husband, Shane Lovas, Ryan Huntley, Matthew Huntley, Michael Schoof, Steven Huntley, and Brendan Huntley; one great-grandson, Kale Bilger; one brother, John (Jack) Huntley and wife, Irene, of Fort Frances, Ont.; one sister, Gladys Armstrong of Rainy River, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 8, 2000 at 10 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances. Rev. Robert Ek and Rev. Brian Keffer will officiate, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends may visit Wednesday, June 7, 2000 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Huntley, Steve Huntley, Matt Huntley, Michael Schoof, Shane Lovas, and Brendan Huntley.
Honourary pallbearers will be Luke Schill, John Moran, Don Lowey, and Ted Sass.
