May 27, 1925 – July 19, 2021
Peacefully, our loving mom, Norma Law (nee McLay), took her last breath on Monday, July 19. She will be lovingly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and so many friends and relatives. She was a very talented, compassionate, and stylish woman.
She is survived by her children Peter (Kathryn), Donna (Norm), Bobby (Joanne), Barbara, and John (Kim); grandchildren Amber, Micha, Penny, Nikki, Chris, Ayla, MacKenzie, Jewel, Destiny and David, and Johnny; great-grandchildren McCallum, Kennedy, Taylor, Ashlyn, Sarah, Morgan and Madison, and Emma.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Don; parents Duncan and Elsie; siblings Alan, Jim, and Helen; son-in-law Randy Gushulak and grandson Paul Gushulak.
Norma arrived in this world May 27, 1925 and grew up on the family farm in Devlin, Ontario.
While attending the two room schoolhouse in the area she became enchanted with the piano and began to learn when her Mother bought a piano for their home. She continued to play, and teach others, throughout her life as well as being Junior Choir Director at Knox United Church in Fort Frances.
Norma met the love of her life, Don Law, in Fort Frances. Their first date was in October, they were engaged at Christmas, and married on April 25, 1946. They traveled the world together and lived in Fort Frances, Winnipeg, Stonewall, their ‘Golden Years’ in Whiterock, B.C., and back to Winnipeg to live at Sterling House.
Norma was a woman who volunteered wholeheartedly and made things happen, from organizing skits at the clubhouse in Whiterock, to starting a choir in Sterling House to ensure they had an amazing Remembrance Day. When she began to lose her sight, she continued the choir and singalongs and would play songs by ear that residents would call out.
She loved being a mom, grandma and great-grandma. Family meant the world to her.
Norma moved to Simkin Centre in late 2019 and loved so many of the people and activities there.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, August 16, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Please RSVP to the Funeral Home.
From all of the family, we look forward to sharing more amazing and loving stories about Norma and her life at that time, and any time.
