NOREEN (HOWELLS) KORPI

Noreen (Howells) Korpi, 85, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. She was born June 24, 1917 in Folkstone, England to the late William and Grace Brown.
Noreen came to Canada on Jan. 4, 1919 and settled in Patullo Township. She later moved north of Pinewood, Ont., where she lived until moving to Fort Frances in 1945.
She loved gardening, doing jigsaw puzzles, and going to Alvin’s cabin. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed birdwatching, and also raised canaries of her own.
Noreen was predeceased by her first husband, George Howells, on Jan. 26, 1978, and her second husband, Arne Korpi, on Dec. 8, 1987.
She also was predeceased by her parents, William and Grace Brown; daughter-in-law, Priscilla Howells; sister-in-law, Lena Brown; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie (Fred) McKelvie and Janice (Blaine) Tucker, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; and two sons, Leonard Howells of Rainy Lake and George Alvin (Helen Torfin) Howells of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving are 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, William A. (Lou) Brown of Stratton, Ont., and William “Billy” (Bertha) Brown of Barwick, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
At Noreen’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service.
