Nicolaas Veldhuisen, of Emo, Ont., passed on to glory on Friday, July 8, 2005. He was born in Ede, the Netherlands, on June 29, 1925.
Nicolaas immigrated to Canada in the spring of 1949. He met and married his love, Johanna Kaemingh. Together, they enjoyed 52 years of marriage and raised their 15 children with God as their guide.
Nick worked at various jobs in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario to provide for his family and to fulfill his dream of buying his own farm.
The farm was his home; the bush was his haven. Dad’s strength and wisdom was felt both in his church and in the community.
He leaves behind his beloved family, wife, Johanna, and children, Margaret Dykstra, Arnold (Joyce) Veldhuisen, Gary (Anita) Veldhuisen, Grace (Clarence) Joldersma, Nico (Jeanette) Veldhuisen, Rich (Geneva) Veldhuisen, Marie-Ann (Theo) DeGroot, Diane (Adrian) Heerema, Joanne (Elco) VanderGrift, Alice (Frank) VandeKraats, Gerald (Diane) Veldhuisen, Joyce (Art) Dronkelaar, Peter (Yvonne) Veldhuisen, Anita (Mel) Slomp, and Wilma (Wayne) Kooistra.
As well, Nicolaas was Opa to 57 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his stillborn son named Willem.
A celebration of Nicolaas’ life was held Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo, with Pastor Dan Vos officiating.
A private family interment took place at the Emo Cemetery in Emo.
Friends visited with the family on Tuesday evening at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo.
The pallbearers were Nicolaas’ sons, Arnold, Gary, Nico, Rich, Gerald, and Peter Veldhuisen.
