The family of Nickolas S. (Nick) Kingerski, 79, is saddened by his peaceful passing on Friday, June 22, 2001 in Fort Frances, Ontario. Nick was born on December 19, 1921 in Rainy River, Ontario to
the late Joseph and Rozalia Kingerski. After serving in the 2nd World War, he returned to Fort Frances, where he met and married Mary Duchnicki on September 11, 1946. He began employment with the Town of Fort Frances shortly after starting as a fireman, then bookkeeper and treasurer. He became the Town Administrator in 1976. He was self taught having attained his accreditation with the Association of Municipalities of Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO) through correspondence courses from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario. He was an active member of AMCTO, the Rainy River District Housing Authority and also held positions on the Police Commission and Police Services Board for many years. He played clarinet in the military band in the 2nd World War as well as the Town Band for over 30 years. Nick has served on the parish council at St. Mary’s Church and was a choir member and lector. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 29. After 40 years of service with the Town of Fort Frances he retired in 1986. His retirement years were spent traveling, camping, fishing, woodworking and playing cards with family and friends. Nick had a great sense of humour and was very close to his grandchildren whom he dearly loved and who will miss him very much. Nick is survived by his wife, Mary, daughter Barb and husband Don Koczkur of Thunder Bay, son Don Kingerski and wife Judy of Winnipeg, seven grandchildren – Sherry Watt (Doug), Stacey Donais (Grant), Shawn Langtry, Erin, Betsy, Chrissy and Nicholas Kingerski and three great grandchildren – Hunter Donais, Thomas and Kenton Watt. He is survived by one brother John (Margaret) of Sudbury and sister Stella Andrusco of Fort Frances.
His brothers Adolph, Walter and sister Sophie predeceased him. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Frances. Father Eugene Whyte, O.M.I. officiated with interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Frances. Visitation and prayers took place on Monday evening at St. Mary’s Church. Pallbearers were Nick Mutz, Buzzie Wickstrom, Ed Grynol, Mike Andrusco, Luke Schill and Tom Duchnicki. Honourary pallbearers were Ed Grabowski, Morris Krawchuk, Jacques Fafard, Claude DeBenedet, Nick Grynol, John Demianiw, Metro Badiuk, Nick Badiuk and Paul Wilcox. The family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. Nugent and Father Eugene for their loving care and support.
