It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nick Kawulia on Thursday, July 9, at the age of 93 in Fort Frances.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Debra (Larry), Nick (Cheryl), and Candace; his beloved grandchildren Jessica (Steven), Tiffany (Ian), Nicholas (Sarah), Tara (Tim), Daniel (Robyn), Tyler (Sharon), and Paige (Sean); many great-grandchildren; as well as several special nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his last remaining brother, Peter “Smokey” Kawulia.
Nick dedicated 40 years of service to the Fort Frances Paper Mill, where he worked as a welder. Outside of his full-time career, he also provided refrigeration repair services, always willing to lend his skills to those in need.
Nick was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Mary Kawulia; his siblings Bill, Mitch, Helen, and Alice; his sisters-in-law Joan, Jean, and Jesse; and his beloved grandson Aaron.

Nick was a man of many passions. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, painting, forest foraging, and rock hounding. He was a devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He took immense pride in caring for his yard and garden, which reflected his hardworking nature and love of the outdoors.
Above all, Nick treasured time spent with his grandchildren. They loved picking fresh raspberries from his garden and affectionately called him “Grampa Koolaid” – a nickname that will forever bring smiles and warm memories to those who knew and loved him.
In keeping with Nick’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
His family would like to thank everyone for their love, support, and kindness during this difficult time. Nick will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
Arrangements entrusted to Northridge Funeral Home Ltd., Emo, Ontario.
