Nick Batiuk passed away peacefully, with family at his side, on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014.
He was born March 21, 1933 in Kenora, Ont. He moved to Fort Frances, Ont. in 1957.
Nick and Betty were married June 18, 1955 in Fort Frances.
Nick worked for many years on the CN telegraph and then with Bell Telephone. He then went to work in the Finishing Room in the Fort Frances paper mill, finishing his career as lead operator in the new Wood Room.
He retired after 35 years—and only then because he had a stroke.
When he was well, Nick loved to work in his garden and go to Minaki, fishing with his brother, Jackie, and wife, Exhilda.
He also loved to have coffee with his friends at McDonald’s, which he did up until three days before he passed away.
As per his wishes, there will be no funeral service and cremation has taken place.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
Nick is survived by his wife, Betty, of 59 years; two daughters, Dianna Whalen and husband, Dave, and their four children, Nicole and Dave Egan and their children, Matthew and Casey, Britainee and Jason Kellar, Ashley and Dave York, Kevin and Carly Whalen and son, Landon, and Carolynne Leimenstoll and husband, Uwe, and their children, Robert and friend, Sue, and Cayla Leimenstoll.
Nick loved his girls and all their families very much, and now to see three great-grandchildren!
He also is survived by two sisters, Mary and Annie, and two brothers, Peter and Harry, and their families.
He was predeceased by his father, Peter, and mother, Annie; brothers, Michael and wife, Linda, Johnie, Billy and wife, Emily, and Jackie and wife, Exhilda; and an infant granddaughter, Tera Leimenstoll
