Nick was a man who cherished life and it is with great sorrow that the family of Nicholaus Leslie Gurski announce his passing on Friday, Jan. 26, 2001 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Nick was born April 28, 1921 in Teulon, Man. to John and Anna Gurski.
Nick was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Jennie at age 12; and by his brother, Michael Stephen Gurski, a pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, who died in the line of duty.
Like his brother Mike, Nick was a pilot officer during World War II, where he received many commendations: Air Bomber Badge, RCAF Operational Wings, C.V.S.N. and Clasp, and most treasured the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Upon returning from the war, Nick moved to Fort Frances, where on Nov. 29, 1952, he married the former Erma Johnson and they began their life together.
Nick and Erma successfully owned and operated Russell’s Moving and Storage for 40 some years.
Nick is survived by his wife, Erma, and their children, daughter, Brenda and her husband, John, and their children; son, Jason; daughter, Crystal and her husband, Armando; son, Les and his wife, Tina, and their children, Matthew, Lauren, Adriane, and Maggie; and son, Michael and his wife, Sharon, and their son, Scott.
Also surviving are sister, Jennie and her husband, Bill Wray, of Hamilton, Ont.; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Nick loved his seven grandchildren, his face would light up when speaking about them. His passion was the outdoors, spending endless hours in his garden. Nick’s yard was immaculate and when it came to his lawn, he was a perfectionist.
