Nick Aleksijuk, 79, of Rainy River, Ont., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010 at the Rainy River Health Centre with his family by his side.
Nick was born July 1, 1931 in Poland to Ewtichi “Alex” and Alexandra Aleksijuk. He immigrated with his family in 1937 and settled in Armstrong, Ont.
The family later moved to Rainy River, where Nick remained until his passing.
Nick worked for the CNR for 38 years until his retirement in 1988. He had a great love for the outdoors, especially the times spent at Three Pine Island with family and friends.
Nick always will be remembered for cruising around Rainy River in his pickup truck, and his famous trade mark (“broom and fishing net in the back”).
He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Cindy (Steve) Hallsworth and Nikki (Bruce) Ferguson, all of Thunder Bay, Ont.; grandchildren, Chelsey (Marcus) Hardy, Dean Hallsworth, Kasha and Kim Aleksijuk, and Jill and Lee Ferguson; great-grandson, Marcus Jr. Hardy; and his life-long companion, Eileen Hodges of Rainy River, Ont.
Nick was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Alexandra; son, Larry (1989); and sister, Nettie Brimmer.
As per Nick’s request, cremation has taken place.
A time of fellowship was held Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Rainy River.
