Nicholas Leek, 77, of Crozier, Ont., passed away peacefully at home Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999. He was born Dec. 10, 1921 in Holland to the late Pieter and Katharina (Kramer) Leek.
On Feb. 10, 1954, he was united in marriage to Katherina (Groot) and together, two weeks later, they emigrated to Canada. They spent two years in Manitoba and then moved to Barwick, Ont. in 1956. Nicholas worked on his farm in Barwick for almost 40 years, moving to Crozier in 1995.
He was a member of the St. Patrick’s parish council and an avid reader.
Nicholas had a great love of life. He loved to joke, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He took great joy in his grandchildren, and took pride in their many accomplishments.
He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Margaret and Alida; and one brother, Jacobus.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Katherina; and two children, Peter and wife, Diane, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Albert and wife, Kathleen, of Emo, Ont. He also will be deeply missed by his six grandchildren, Melanie, Krista, Kevin, Julia, Anthony, and Christopher.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Emo. Fr. James Panikulam officiated, with interment in the Chapple Cemetery in Barwick, Ont.
Pallbearers were Peter Boon, Neil Grant, Wenzel Kepes, George Oltsher, John Vanderaa, and Mike Zimmerman.
Honourary pallbearers were Nicholas’s grandchildren.
In memorium donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the International Order of Oddfellows, or the Emo Public Library.
