Nicholas (Nick) Samuel Kantos, 75, of International Falls, Mn., passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at his home.
Nick was born July 20, 1937 in Chisholm, Mn.
He grew up in Hibbing, Mn. and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1955. He then attended Bemidji State University and completed graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, Superior in 1965.
He moved to International Falls in 1966, where he had lived since.
Nick married Sharen Jacobson on July 11, 1959 in Chisholm.
He worked as a guidance counsellor at Falls Senior High School for 30 years, was the guidance counsellor at Littlefork-Big Falls High School for 10 years, and worked as a realtor for Island View Realty for 15 years.
He loved his family, as well as spending time at “the” cabin, farm, and condo. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, curling, and reading.
Nick was a member of the Elks Club, Fort Frances Curling Club, Fraternal Lodge 255, AHEPA Lodge, and MN School Counselors Association.
He was a past president of the Kiwanis and Curling Club, chairman of the State Counselor Conference, was a past church council member at Zion Lutheran Church, and council member of Boy Scouts of America.
He enjoyed helping thousands of students achieve their career goals while always maintaining a professional approach and look. He also was a great friend.
Nick was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Lina Kantos; and son-in-law, Joe Novotny.
Nick is survived by his wife, Sharen Kantos of International Falls, Mn.; son, Craig (Lori) Kantos of Waupaca, Wis.; daughter, Jill Kantos of Minneapolis, Mn.; and grandchildren, Cole and Parker Kantos.
Also surviving are his brothers, Tom (Rose) Kantos of International Falls, Mn. and Sam (Joan) Kantos of Pequot Lakes, Mn; numerous nieces and nephews; and three grand-dogs.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls.
