Peacefully, on Dec. 2, 2000, Nellie “Nell” Marguerite Booren (nee Tompkins) passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Nell was born Jan. 31, 1917 in Emo, Ont. to the late Ed and Sara Tompkins. In 1939, she married Robert Booren. Following their marriage, they lived in Nestor Falls, Ont., where Bob co-owned and operated Arrowhead Camp.
Nell’s career of teaching spanned many years in Nestor Falls, Emo, and Fort Frances.
Nell was predeceased by her husband, Bob; two brothers, Russell and Charlie; and two sisters, Dorothy and Isabelle.
She is survived by one sister, Edra Gay of Thunder Bay, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Thankful for the life and continuing memories of our mother and grandmother are the families of her son, Robert Tompkins Booren and wife, Janet, and grandchildren, Sara and Robert Jon of Carp, Ont.; and daughter, Patti and husband, Don Johnson, of Winnipeg, Man.
A memorial service in celebration of Nell’s life will be held at Nestor Falls United Church on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000 at 2 p.m.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends and family so desire, in memoriam donations to either the Nestor Falls United Church or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
