With broken hearts, our precious son, Neil Arthur Darren Roy, was tragically taken from us on August 10, 2007.
Neil was born on December 17, 1990 in Thunder Bay, Ont. and lived in Nipigon, Ont. for one year before moving to Fort Frances. Neil was entering Grade 12 at Fort Frances High School.
Neil’s many interests included snowboarding, hockey, life at the lake and hanging out with his many friends. His many hours of practice made him an accomplished bass player with his band, Goreatomy.
Just this past July, Neil was sooooo proud that his band won the 2007 Fort Frances “Battle of the Bands.”
Neil had a contagious smile and eyes that lit up every room he entered, making him extremely popular with his many friends.
Neil was always pumped to attend concerts which included his fave Slayer, Bon Jovi, Van Halen and most recently, Rise Against. His quick wit and good work ethic made him popular with friends and employers.
Neil and his brother, Derek, shared a special bond (usually a full nelson), their many ski trips to Biwabik and summers at Birch Point.
Neil is survived by his parents Wayne and Patsy Roy and brother Derek. Also surviving are grandmas Therese Roy (Red Rock, Ont.) and Lillian Firman (Gimli, Man.).
Aunts and uncles include Ross and Nancy Spencer, Peter and Gail Schade, Allan and Evelyn Goodman, Calvin and Brenda Firman, Joann and Ronnie Krulicki, Neil and Terri Firman, and their families and godparents, Uncle Allan and Auntie Terri.
Neil was predeceased by his Grandpas Orval Roy and Arthur Firman.
Funeral services were held the morning of Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. Father Francis Pudicherry officiated.
Also on Wednesday, a joint memorial service was held for Neil and good friend Ben Klyne at the Fort Frances Memorial Sports Centre starting at 4 p.m.
In light of this sudden and tragic loss of a son and brother, friends have generously set up a bereavement fund in Neil’s memory. Donations may be made at the Royal Bank of Canada, 343 Scott Street, Fort Frances, ON P9A 1H1.
    I’ll love you forever,
    I’ll like you for always,
    As long as I’m living
    My baby you’ll be.
    Thumbs up Neil!
