Myrtle Ivy Miller, 78, of Flinders Place, Fort Frances, Ont., went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998 at McKellar Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Myrtle was born May 5, 1920 in International Falls, Mn. to the late John and Jennie Patterson. Later that year, Myrtle moved with her family to the Burriss area, where she was raised.
In 1939, Myrtle was united in marriage to her first husband, Charles E. Brown, and together they settled in Fort Frances until his passing in 1965. Myrtle married again June 29, 1974 to William “Bill” Miller. Together, they ran an emergency foster home for many years and, over that time, raised many foster children.
Most of all, she loved her family, who were always first and foremost in her life.
She also was predeceased by her daughter, Muriel Hoppe; and sister, Ethel Stepensen.
Myrtle will be sadly missed by her husband, Bill of Fort Frances; two daughters, Sheila Joynson (David) of Thunder Bay, and Gloria Maki of Fort Frances; two sons, Edward Brown (Donna) of Thunder Bay, and Rocky Brown (Nancy) of Fort Frances; son-in-law, Herman Hoppe of International Falls, Mn.; 12 grandchildren, Sandra Klemetson (Delroy), Delbert Hoppe (Alice), Charles Hoppe (Missy), Charlene Boyda (John), Renea Brown (Brad), Dianne Brown, David Brown, Nowell Brown, Krystal Maki, Andrew Maki, Dayton Brown, and Reece Brown, eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eileen Martin, Fern Hyatt (Angus), and Darlene Grennier (Ted), all of Fort Frances; one brother, John E. Patterson (Helen) of International Falls, Mn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Pastor Stephen Laing officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery.
Family and friends visited prior to the service.
Pallbearers were Delbert Hoppe, John Lonergan, Henry Miller, Gary Miller, Ed Link, and Ken Thiessen.
