MOSES ‘BILL’ HAVELIN

Moses “Bill” Havelin, 81, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Monday, July 30, 2001 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. He was born Aug. 12, 1919 in Charteris, Que. to the late Robert and Jessie Havelin.
Mr. Havelin entered the workforce at the young age of 14. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and moved to Port Arthur, Ont. to receive his training. It was in Port Arthur that he met Evylen Corbett, whom he married June 22, 1943 in Pembroke, Ont.
They later headed west and settled in Cultus Lake, B.C., where they lived for a short time. Bill then was transferred overseas, where he served with the demolition unit of the Royal Canadian Army for four years during World War II.
Following the war, he rejoined his wife, Evylen, and they moved to Hamilton, Ont., where he worked for a construction company and also built houses. In 1952, they moved their family to Dorion, Ont., where they lived until returning to Port Arthur in 1962.
Bill bought a farm, which he operated for a few years. He later sold his farm and began working as a mechanic and school bus driver until his retirement in 1978.
He then moved to Fort Frances in 1981 to be with his family.
He enjoyed doing carpentry work, models, camping, and fishing. Most of all, his family was very important to him.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy (Dan) Webster of Fort Frances, Ont.; and his son, Bill Havelin of Calgary, Alta.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, Bob Webster of Winnipeg, Man., Robin Havelin of Calgary, Alta., and Jamie Havelin of Victoria, B.C.; one great-grandchild, Brandon Havelin, also of Calgary, Alta.; one sister, Maude (Fred) Russett of Aylmer, Que.; one brother, John Havelin of Shawville, Que.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Evylen, on Sept. 5, 1998; and two sons, Robert in 1969 and Roderick in 1977.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Rev. Diane Clifford officiating.
Interment took place in the Riverside Cemetery in Thunder Bay, Ont. on Friday, Aug. 3, 2001 at 11 a.m., with Archdeacon Mark Conliffe officiating.
Pallbearers were Bob Webster, Don Patrick, Ron Patrick, Rick Cooper, Robin Havelin, and Steve Lenart.
