Morris Ash passed away peacefully Jan. 10, 2007 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. with his family at his side.
Morris was born Aug. 11, 1925 in Fort Frances to Mary and William Ash.
On Jan. 1, 1952, Morris married Patricia Watson and they made their home in Fort Frances. As a young man, Morris worked in the Red Lake mines. In 1950, he returned to Fort Frances to work in the local paper mill, where he remained until his retirement in 1988.
He was a stationary engineer (2nd class) and a devoted member of the IAM union for many years.
Morris is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia; daughter, Mary Ellen Chapman and husband, Brent; and sons, Raymond Ash and wife, Cathy, and Gordon Ash, all of Fort Frances, Ont., and Robert Ash and partner, Jackie, of Edmonton, Alta.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Adrian, Nathan and partner, Kris, Daniel and Laney Chapman, and Leah, Billy, and Jessica Ash; and great-grandchildren, Aric and Benjamin Chapman, Carthan Chapman-Gillies, and Ariel Plante.
He also leaves behind his brother, Dennis Ash and wife, Annette; sister, Loneta Robertson and husband, Allan; brothers-in-law, Norris Langtry and Jack Tiefenbacher; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Keith and Ellen Watson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Melvin and Florence Watson; sister-in-law, Bonnie Watson; and many nieces and nephews.
Morris was predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and William Ash; brother, Russell Ash; and sisters, Lydia Tyckon, Alma Carter, Annie Ellen Langtry, Freda Zurick, and Ila Tiefenbacher.
Morris was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion.
After his retirement, he and his wife spent many wonderful years travelling. When he wasn’t travelling, he enjoyed cooking meals for his children and grandchildren.
He was proud and supportive of his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He cherished the time he spent with them and enjoyed participating in many family gatherings over the years.
Morris also loved reminiscing with friends, and had an incredible memory for people and historical events.
A memorial service and luncheon was held Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007 at 2 p.m. in Woodbury Hall at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances.
