MILTON HENRY LAMPI
Milton Henry Lampi, 71, passed away suddenly on Thursday, Oct. 4 , 2007 in his home on Nickleby Lake (Highway 11) near Atikokan, Ont.
Milton was born May 3, 1936 in Finland Ont., third of the five sons born to the late William and Eleanor (Bragg) Lampi. He married Patricia Hogan in Atikokan in June 20, 1955.
Milt moved, with his parents and brothers, to Atikokan in 1953 and spent the remainder of his life, except for a few periods here and there, living in the Atikokan and area.
He worked at CAC Caland, operating the tug boat and servicing the dredge. He worked at mines in Shebandowan, Flin Flon, and Besset, Man., and diamond drilling up in the Northwest Territories.
He spent many years working in the forest industry until an injury forced him out.
He was a jack-of-all-trades, but specialized in mechanics and was able to fix most anything brought to his attention. He enjoyed neighbours and friends calling on him when they needed a helping hand and would always go, with a smile and a joke, no matter what the weather or the hour of the day.
Milt seldom spent time sitting, he was always busy doing something; even when visiting, he was busy playing his accordion or guitar as entertainment for the folks in the room.
Milt was a dedicated collector of “things he might use one day.” He could, and would, enthusiastically explain the plan for, and the purpose of, anything you might question him holding onto.
Milton is survived by four children, Sandra (Tom) Morden and Christine (Wade) Modeland of Atikokan, Ont., Cecil (Karen) of N.W.T., and Kelly (Sharon) in Texas; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Richard (Jean) of Atikokan, Ont. and Fredrick of Merritt, B.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Ted Robert, in 1971; his father, William, in 1972; his mother, Eleanor, in 2005; two brothers, William in 1932 and Nicholas in 1993; and a few friends he has missed dearly.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Legion Hall in Atikokan, with Rev. Gordon Waldie officiating.
Pallbearers will be Richard Bowes, Doug Sanders, Eric Rasinaho, Douglas Lampi, Fred Lampi, and Richard Lampi.
Interment will be in Finland Cemetery in Finland, Ont. at a later date.
