Mildred “Bubs” Treftlin, 82, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances on Friday, Sept. 27, 2002.
She was born June 5, 1920 in Fort Frances to the late Charles and Rebecca Payne. In earlier years, Mildred worked at the Electric Bakery for a period of time.
On April 30, 1947, she was united in marriage to Kenneth “Ken” Treftlin. She worked at Rainycrest for a time. In 1958, the family moved to Crilly, where they lived for a year before returning to Fort Frances.
Mildred then worked at Stedman’s store until her retirement.
She was a member of the Redwing Rebekah Lodge #109 in Fort Frances for many years. She also enjoyed league bowling with co-workers and seniors.
Mildred had a love for animals, and had various dogs and cats throughout her life. She liked knitting for her family, and playing Bingo with friends and neighbours. She and Ken also loved the time spent with their family on many camping get-togethers.
Mildred will be missed very much by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ken Treftlin in 1990; one daughter, Laurel Gay Treftlin in infancy in 1954; two brothers, Norman and Gerry Payne; and one sister, Muriel Readman.
Mildred is survived by her three sons, Brent and wife, Jo-Anne, of Delta, B.C., Glenn and wife, Karen, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Larry and wife, Barbara, of Keswick, Ont.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Connie and husband, Joe Bliss, of Mine Centre, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Diane Clifford will officiate, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances at a later date.
Friends may visit Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home.
Honourary pallbearers will be Mildred’s grandsons, Kirby Irmscher, Travis Irmscher, Chad Treftlin, Erik Treftlin, and Tyler Treftlin.
