It is with great sadness that the family of Michael (Mike) Baranowski announce his passing on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014 at the Fort Frances La Verendrye Hospital with his family by his side.
Mike was born Sept. 24, 1927 in Mine Centre, Ont. to Michael and Paulina Baranowski. He spent his childhood In Emo and joined the Merchant Marines in his late teens.
Mike and his brother, John, played minor hockey in Saskatchewan for the Chicago Blackhawks’ farm team for a couple of years.
He was united in marriage to Irene Paulson on April 12, 1950 in Rainy Rive, Ont. and they settled down in Nestor Falls Ont.
Mike worked as a guide and various jobs and eventually they bought and ran a tourist camp called Sunset Cove. Mike was a sports enthusiast; he loved hockey, curling and fishing. Mike also had a love for animals, especially his cat, Susie.
He leaves behind Irene his loving wife of 64 years. Also surviving are his brothers, Bill and Dan (Iris); sister Julie (Howard) Burns; and sister-in-law Amy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Paulina; his brother, John; and sisters, Stella Ball, Irene Dick, Anne Cutts, and Pauline, Mary, Nettie, and Olga Baranowski.
As per Michael’s wishes cremation has taken place and no service to be held at this time.
