MERVELINE BROWN

Brown, Merveline

It is with great sadness that the family of Merveline Brown announces her passing on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016 with her daughters by her side.
Merveline was born March 7, 1924 in Barwick, Ont. to Henry and Violet Ahrens.
She grew up on the Ahrens family farm, attending Barwick Consolidated School and then Fort Frances High School.
She then attended the Summer Sessions of the Toronto Normal School, receiving her teacher’s certificate. She taught school in the district for 15 years and never stopped learning—taking every course and workshop available to her.
Merve was united in marriage to Gerald Brown on Aug. 7, 1946 and they settled north of Stratton, Ont. on the Brown family farm.
She was an active member of the Women’s Institute and the Stratton United Church. Merveline also was one to keep busy: sewing, crafting, scrapbooking, knitting, and dancing were just a few of her hobbies.
As the girls left home, she enjoyed travelling to their homes for visits.
Merveline was predeceased by her parents; husband, Gerald (2014); grandson, Blake Cheslock; son-in-law, Willie Cheslock; and siblings, Mervin, Otto, Mansel, Howard, Doraline, and Myrtle.
She leaves behind her daughters, Barbara (James) Metcalfe of The Pas, Man., Judith (Harry) Mercer of Thunder Bay, Ont., Marjorie (John) Boudreau of Iroquois Falls, Ont., and Alfreda Cheslock of Dryden, Ont.; grandchildren, Christine (Clarence) McDonald, Jennifer (Chris) Keller, Bridget (Daniel) Maksymchak, Neal (Heather) Boudreau, Darcy (Trisha) Boudreau, Jillian Boudreau (Dan Dube), Rhiannon (Steven) Sachowski, and Kelsey Cheslock (Brian Gasbarini); and great-grandchildren, Lucas and Caitlin McDonald, Hinako Cheslock, Adeline Boudreau, Jace Keller, Summer Sachowski, Trevor Maksymchak, Kira Keller, Ariya Boudreau, and Leah Dube.
Also surviving are her sisters, Dorothy Brown of Emo, Ont., and Ella (Lawrence) Desserre and Shirley (Robert) Gadd of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont., with Rev. Barbara Miller officiating.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be held in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers will be Merveline’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family gratefully requests that in memoriam donations be made to the Riverside Foundation–Rainycrest Activation, 110 Victoria Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3T2.
