MERCY JANE BUSCH

Mrs. Mercy Jane Busch, 96, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, Dec. 23, 2002. She was born March 6, 1906 to John Noble Hoey and Mercy Christine (Armit) Hoey in Koochiching County, Mn.
She moved with her family to Fort Frances, Ont. in 1920, where she attended Crozier #3 School and Fort Frances High School. In 1925, she graduated from North Bay Teachers College, then taught public school at La Vallee from 1925-29.
On Sept. 25, 1929, Mercy married Arthur E. Busch, her partner for 64 years. Together they raised three children, moving to Owen Sound and Brantford, Ont. from 1937-47.
The family returned to Fort Frances, where Mercy and Arthur partnered in a welding and machine shop business until their retirement in 1976.
Her hands were never still and talents un-numbered. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, and pettit point–and excelled in each.
An avid gardener, she was most generous, sharing her bounty with friends, family, neighbours, and those in need. She was a kind and caring person whose family meant the world to her, especially the children.
Mercy was predeceased by her husband, Arthur E. Busch in 1993; father, John N. Hoey in 1947; mother, Mercy Christine (Armit) Hoey in 1955; brothers, Frank Hoey and Clayton Hoey of Dryden, Ont.; and sisters, Marion Klymko of Fort Frances, Ont. and Ida Forbes of Orrville, Ont.
She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life three children, Wayne (Patricia) Busch of Devlin, Ont., Lyle (Anna) Busch of Reef Point, Ont., and Marne (Richard) Holmquist of Thunder Bay, Ont.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Also surviving is one sister, Honor Grace Knudsen of Thunder Bay, Ont.; as well as numerous other relatives.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of this wonderful, loving person will be held Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Rev. Barbara Murray and Margaret Lidkea officiating.
Honourary pallbearers will be her family and friends.
Interment to follow at a later date in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
