Melvin Perter Lee, 75, of Blackhawk, Ont., passed away suddenly at his home Dec. 8, 1998.
Melvin worked most of his life as a guide, starting out at Straw Lake with his brother-in-law, Duncan Magill, and sister, Hilda, at Slippery Winds Resort. He later guided for Dolly and Jack Bruce at Boulder Lodge on Pipestone Lake, then he went to work for Delbert and Gladys Ross at Ross’ Camp on Clearwater Lake.
When the camp was sold to Bill and Armond Mosbeck, Melvin stayed on guiding for Bill and Armond until he retired a few years ago.
Melvin also trapped in the winter months on Jackfish Lake. He enjoyed his outdoor lifestyle. In his retirement years, he became quite a gardener and took an interest in growing fruit trees.
He also enjoyed visiting his friends and neighbours, and his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Alma Lee; four sisters, Clara Niskala, Minnie Bethune, Hilda Magill, and Margaret Gawley; and two brothers, Leonard Lee and Gordon Lee.
Melvin is survived by his sister, Agnes Pearson of Rainycrest in Fort Frances, Ont.; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Lee of Stratton, Ont., and Audrey Swanton of Fort Frances, Ont.; one brother-in-law, Edward Gawley of Vermilion Bay, Ont.; and many nieces and nephews.
At Melvin’s request, there will be no services.
