With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Melvin Gene Fletcher, 83, of Fort Frances, Ont., on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.
Mel was born on June 20, 1934 in Woodyatt Township, Ont. to James and Florence Fletcher.
He was united in marriage to Hermina Tilley on Oct. 18, 1954.
Mel loved the outdoors and logging was his life right up to his retirement at the age of 75. He also loved fishing, woodworking, carving wooden toys and puzzles, gardening.
Most of all, his love for his wife, Hermina, was his life.
He will be dearly missed by his sons, Melvin (Patti) of Fort Frances, Ont. and David (Brenda) of Winnipeg, Man., and son-in-law, Miles Brown of Atikokan, Ont.; grandchildren, Melissa Fletcher of Toronto, Ont. and Caitlin Fletcher (Mike) of Thunder Bay, Ont., Jennifer Commins and Jolene Brown of Atikokan, Ont., Justin Brown (Silka) of Germany, and Christopher Fletcher and Samantha Fletcher (Chris) of Winnipeg, Man.; step-grandchildren, Storm and Zhara Laster, Indygo Nicholson, and Shyan Scott of Port Angeles, Wash.; and great-grandchildren, Joshua, Brandon, and Emily Brown of Atikokan, Ont., Cody Commins of Timmins, Ont., and Sara Jane.
Also surviving are his siblings, Mary (Albert) Truelove, Ida (Vince) Brunet, James (Gail) Fletcher, and Les (Sandy) Fletcher; sister-in-law, Darlene Fletcher; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mel was predeceased by his parents, James and Florence; wife, Hermina; daughter, Teresa Brown; and brother, Cecil Fletcher.
As per Mel’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A private interment will take place in Little Falls Cemetery in Atikokan, Ont. at a later date.
