MAYNARD S. RAUN

Maynard S. Raun, 80, of Duluth, Mn., passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at Miller Dwan Medical Center.
He was born in Ulen, Mn. on July 25, 1922 to Burton and Agnes (Lunde) Raun and he was a 1940 Ulen High School graduate. Maynard also was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre.
On Sept. 18, 1946, he married Doris Green in Fort Frances, Ont.
Following his time in the service, Maynard worked in plumbing and heating sales. The Rauns lived in numerous Minnesota communities until moving to Cloquet in 1964. From 1968-72, Maynard served as a Carlton County Commissioner.
Maynard was owner of the Woodland General Agency, which he began in the early 1970s. He also managed Woodland Mutual Insurance Company.
Maynard served as chairman in 1984-85 of the Minnesota Association of Farm Mutual Insurance Companies. He was employed in the insurance industry for more than 15 years, until his retirement in 1984.
Maynard was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Cloquet. Maynard and his wife also enjoyed square dancing, and he had served as president of the Minnesota Square Dance Association in 1986.
He also enjoyed spending time in his boat and fishing.
In 1993, Maynard and Doris moved to Bella Vista, Ark., enjoying their retirement years, and were active members of the United Lutheran Church.
Maynard was predeceased by his parents; and one grandson, Gabriel Vogt.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris; five children, Cheryl (David) Jones of Princeton, Mn., BerylAnn (Allen) Vogt of Cook, Mn., Richard (Cindy) Raun of Cloquet, Mn., Jeffrey Raun of Austin, Tex., and Timothy Raun of Duluth, Mn.; five siblings, Ingeborg (Roland) Asleson of Moorhead, Mn., Lyle (Marie) Raun of Detroit Lakes, Mn., Arlene (Cal) Anderson of Paynesville, Mn., Barbarba Stadler of Ada, Mn., and Beverly (Darrel “Punky”) Montieth of Lake Park, Mn.; 10 grandchildren, Jessica, Jacob, Faith (Jeremy), Jowaan, Amanda, Matthew (Elizabeth), Benjamin, Andrew, Christian, and Morgan; and one great-grandson, Bryan.
Memorials are preferred.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service on Saturday, March 22, 2003 in the Jarvi-Dowd Chapel. Military honors will be accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.
