It is with great sorrow that the family of May (Mickey) Kathleen Cross (nee Carmody), 85, announces her passing on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
May was born March 15, 1925 in Fort Frances, Ont. to William and Eva Carmody. She was united in marriage to Victor Cross on Sept. 11, 1946 and together they raised five children.
She worked for the Co-op in Emo, Ont., and was a past member of the Aylsworth Women’s Institute, the U.C.W. in Fort Frances, and the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary in Emo. She also volunteered at the hospital gift shop.
May had many interests such as music, particularly listening to bagpipe and Irish melodies, collecting Irish trinkets, and reading, and she also loved flowers.
She had a wonderful talent for knitting and crocheting, of which she made a sweater set for each grandchild, as well as numerous other articles for family and friends.
Family was very important to May and she always insisted the whole family spend Christmas at her home together. She always remembered special days, such as birthdays, by relating them to events that took place at that time.
May will be greatly missed by her children, Kathleen (Yves) DeGagne of Fort Frances, Ont., Patsy Cross of Fort Frances, Ont., Vicki (David) Ogilvie of Emo, Ont., Doug (Coleen) Cross of Emo, Ont., and Lori (Bill) Woodgate of Devlin, Ont.; grandchildren, Real (Rosanne) DeGagne, Celeste Fletcher (friend Bob Whitburn), Fr. Victor DeGagne, Tim (Tasneem) DeGagne, Heather (Greg) Latter, Dennis Ogilvie, Allison (Cory) Card, Jeff and Ashley Cross, Jonathon Woodgate, Erin (Travis) Wood, and Jessica Woodgate (friend Tim Desjardins); great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Aidan, Christen, and Gabrielle DeGagne, Zachary, Evan, and Megan Fletcher, and Alexis and Benjamin Latter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She also is survived by her brother, Kenneth (Sheila) Carmody of La Vallee, Ont.; sisters, Carol (Jack) Velacich of Gilbert, Mn. and Julie (Lloyd) Johnson of Boring, Ore.; brother-in-law, Don McTavish of La Vallee, Ont.; and sister-in-law, Janice Carmody of St. Paul, Mn.
May was predeceased by her husband, Victor Cross; parents, William and Eva Carmody; sisters, Eva (Robert) Cox and Shannon McTavish; and brothers, Harold “Sonny” (Marion) Carmody and William “Billy” Carmody.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Knox United Church in Fort Frances, with Rev. Barb Miller officiating, assisted by Fr. Victor DeGagne.
Cremation has taken place.
The pallbearers will be Doug Cross, Yves DeGagne, David Ogilvie, and Bill Woodgate while the honourary pallbearers will be all of May’s grandchildren.
