MAURICE WILFRED DESSERRE

Maurice Wilfred Desserre, 63, of 26 Byng St., Emo, Ont., passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
He was born Feb. 5, 1941 in Pattullo, Ont. In his earlier years, Maurice moved to Thompson, Man., where he was employed in mining for a couple of years. From there, he moved to Dryden, Ont. to work for the Dryden Paper Co., as well as Towland Hewitson as foreman in operating the asphalt plant.
Following his employment there, he bought his own truck and was self-employed with various contractors, such as Mac Morrison, Dave Burt, and Therrien Forest Products Ltd. over the past 30 years.
During these years, he lived in several locations, during which time he moved to Stratton, Ont. and then to Emo, where he lived until the time of his passing.
In 1963, he met Gladys Steele and together they raised their family.
He was predeceased by his father, Wilfred Desserre; and one grandson, Dale Nielson.
Maurice is survived by his mother, Arvilla Desserre of Pinewood, Ont.; his wife, Gladys Desserre of Emo, Ont.; three children, Carol and husband, Bob Pollard, of Fort Frances, Ont., Larry Nielson and Linda of Calgary, Alta., and Terry Nielson and Dorothy of Vermilion Bay, Ont.; seven grandchildren, Cindy and husband, Haidar Khalfa, of London, England, Owen Smith of Thunder Bay, Ont., Barry Nielson, Daryl Nielson, and Kari Nielson, all of Dryden, Ont., Andrea Nielson of Toronto, Ont., and Kevin Nielson of Vancouver, B.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Saphia Khalfa and Senad Khalfa, both of London, England.
Also surviving are two sisters, Verna and husband, Mel King, of Atikokan, Ont., and Bonnie Wolframe of Pinewood, Ont.; and one brother, Ken Desserre Sr. and wife, Lavern, of Stratton. Ont.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 3, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Emo Legion in Emo, with Rev. Mrs. Barbara Miller officiating. Interment will take place in Pineridge Cemetery in North Branch, Ont. at a later date.
Visitation was held prior to the funeral service Monday afternoon at the Emo Legion in Emo.
The pallbearers were Hugh Geary, Brian Nielson, Phil Mitchell, Gerry Lougheed, Bob Teeple, and Gary Desserre.
The honuorary pallbearers were all of his nephews and great-nephews.
