It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Maureen Lee Roth, 62, on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Maureen was born Feb. 16, 1947 in Fort Frances, the first child of Leonard and Lena Mercure. She shared the same birth date as her late father, Leonard.
She met and married the proverbial boy next door, the love of her life, Earl Dennis Roth on July 16, 1966.
Maureen graduated from the nursing program in Fort Frances in June, 1966 as an RNA but decided to fulfill life as a devoted wife and mother to daughter, Cheryl (Wayne) Angus, and son, Bruce.
Maureen had a contagious smile, and her constant good humour and patience was never more evident than in her everyday devotion to her six grandsons, Jeffrey, Jason, Joey, Justin, Andrew, and Dylan.
She was a 25-year member of the Catholic Women’s League for St. Mary’s Catholic Church and an avid member of the Order of the Royal Purple.
Maureen created and presented to family members, as special anniversary gifts, wonderful needlepoint designs of their wedding day.
In addition to family members mentioned above, Maureen is survived by her mother, Lena; mother-in-law, Germaine Roth; brothers, Murray Mercure (wife, Elizabeth, Devon, Travis, and Regan), Gregory Mercure (wife, Kathy, Mark and wife, Lindsay, Karen and Susan Mercure and Kalon DeGagne), and Real Mercure (Brianna, Sophie, and Casey); and sister, Annette Hauta (husband, Barry, Kyle and Eric).
Also surviving are her brothers-in-law, Harold Roth (wife, Pricilla, Mike and Geoff) and Dwaine Roth (wife, Leony, Elizabeth and Maria); sisters-in-law, June Hacking (Linda, Wayne, Larry, and Joanne), Ellen Belbas (Andy and Wendy), and Gerry Cullen (husband, Bill, Sherry and Tammy) and their extended families; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Maureen was predeceased by her father, Leonard; father-in-law, Norman; brother-in-law, Donald, Ernie, Harry, and John; and grandparents, Harry and Sophie Onichuk and Grace and Alfred Wood.
Funeral mass will be held Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Francis Pudicherry as celebrant.
Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
