Matt Gushuliak passed away on the evening of Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont. following an accepting but determined battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 5, 1934 in Arbakka, Stuartburn, Man. to George and Elena Gushuliak.
He was united in marriage to Jacqueline Wreggitt, the love of his life, on April 10, 1969 in Fort Frances. The two were constant companions and their lives revolved around one another.
Matt worked at various jobs throughout his life, beginning on the family farm and then logging, working for Mando and George Armstrong Co. Ltd., then as a maintenance person at Robert Moore School, which he thoroughly enjoyed, until his retirement in 1999.
He was a private person with strong values who valued family and simple things in life, and thoroughly enjoyed sharing trips to Las Vegas with Jackie.
He cherished his grandchildren, took great pride in their accomplishments and abilities, loving and believing in them always.
Matt was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline; parents George and Elena; brothers, Mike, Nick, and John; and sisters, Anne Chubey, Mary Melnychuk, and Lorraine Hirschfield.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Matt Patrick (Jackie) Gushuliak, Victoria Ann Gushuliak, Dawn Hayes, and Terilynn Wreggitt; grandchildren, Hailey and Matt Gushuliak, and Brittany (Chris Strachan), Cale, and Connor Hayes.
He also is survived by his brother, Bill, and sister, Della Badiuk; sister-in-law, Kitty Desrosiers; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives.
At Matt’s request, a private family service was held Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, when he was put to rest where he wanted to be, together with his beloved wife, Jackie.
