Mary Patrick

Mary Patrick, 95, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at her residence on Wednesday, April 20, 2005.
She was born Oct. 18, 1909 in Winnipeg, Man. to the late John and Olianna (Stolarchuk) Marchuk. In 1935, Mary was united in marriage to John Patrick.
Prior to moving to Fort Frances in 1948, Mary lived in Flanders, Ont. While there, she operated the prisoner of war camp. After moving to Fort Frances, Mary and her husband owned and operated Patrick’s Grocery Store until 1968.
She later worked for five years at the Rainy Lake Golf and Country Club in Fort Frances. Mary did everything from cooking, cleaning, and doing managerial duties.
Mary loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She always spoke fondly of her grandchildren; they were the pulse beat of her life.
She loved to cook, sew, knit, and crochet. Mary also loved to put on huge family meals, especially on Sundays. She was an exceptional cook and her meals were always enjoyed.
Mary was the kitchen caterer for the old Rainy Lake Golf Club for many years, where she was affectionately known as “Marika.” Her Friday stag night meals were legendary!
Mary, along with Sophie Grynol and Celia Armit, also spent countless hours knitting and crocheting items for sale at the seniors’ centre called Pleasant Pastime Place (later named Sister Kennedy Centre).
Mary had a heart of gold and loved people. She was an inspiration to her family and will be remembered as such.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Patrick, on June 24, 1971; her son, George, on March 26, 1995; and twin infant daughters. Mary also was predeceased by two sisters, Anne Socholotuk and husband, Bill, and Jennie Boresiuk and husband, Nick.
Mary is survived by her son, Larry Patrick and wife, Josie; three grandchildren, Ron, Don, and Jon Paul Patrick; and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Olga Patrick, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as many nieces and nephews from her two sisters.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 22, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiating.
Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances at a later time.
Honourary pallbearers will be all of her special friends, nieces, and nephews.
